HE Choices: Researching Courses and Universities with Ruth Walton from The University of Winchester
28th February 2017 @ 09:15 - 10:00
Choosing the right course at the right university is an important decision, but also a little mind blowing! There is so much choice available, where do you start?
This session will help you to get started with researching a subject you may (or may not) know you want to study. This is your chance to learn how to research the university that is right for you. Does the course have the right career prospects and links with industry? Does it have placement opportunities and study abroad options? These questions and many others will be highlighted throughout this presentation.
Suitable for: All Year 12 students.
Preparation or Pre-Reading: We recommend that students prepare in advance some questions relating to their thoughts around their potential university application and to think about how speaking to a university might help them get started with, or extend, their research.
The IT Setup: The setup is similar to Skype, using a pc and webcam, although students take part as a group with the image projected on a whiteboard rather than as individuals in front of lots of pcs. Dedicated videoconferencing equipment is also compatible if available to the school. We will work with your IT department to ensure everything is set up and working prior to the event. The sessions are generally limited to 3 or 4 schools to maintain the interactive nature of the experience.
Booking a Place: If you have a group that you would like to take part in this event, please contact us via email or using the contact form on the top right of this page, letting us know whether you would like to join the 28th February, 2nd March, or the 26th June session. We will book your place subject to availability.
After the Event: If students have any questions following the video conference, please encourage them to email Winchester.
