In this Psychology/Biology session, Dr Teodora Gliga, Associate Professor in Psychology at University of East Anglia, will run an interactive talk for students on Consolidating Memories While Asleep.

In this interactive session, Dr Teodora Gliga will ask the intriguing question of why we (and all living things) sleep. You will hear about why sleep is important for short term memories to become long term memories, how using brain imaging in a Sleep lab we can decipher the role of the hippocampus, the thalamus and the cortex in memory consolidation and how new research tries to develop methods to train our brain waves in order to improve sleep (and therefore, learning).
