Hosted by Colin Willsher, a composer of over 250 music commissions for TV, Advertising and media, and currently a lecturer at Solent University, Southampton – this seminar offers an insight into writing music to picture and explores the challenges and the musical/technical skills and knowledge required to work in this field.

We will look at how a project develops from original concept and artwork to a finished sequence with music, and dissect a wide range of commissions across a variety of music genres to reveal the ideas and processes behind each one.

Topics will include:

  • Understanding the brief.
  • Critical decisions on Genre, Tempo, Instrumentation and Arrangement.
  • Techniques to better match the music with the visuals.
  • Working to deadlines and strategies for ‘Creative Block’.

There will be much here that you will be able to apply to the A Level Syllabus and beyond, as well as your own creative projects. And every opportunity to ask questions.
