In this Drama workshop, Benjamin Archer, a trained professional actor who has worked on both stage and screen and Lecturer in the Department of Art and Music at Solent University, presents Stanislavski & An Actor’s Work On Oneself.

Stanislavski’s ‘system’ has been the subject of misinterpretation through errors in its translation, publication, and dissemination in the Western world.

This workshop focuses on the later work of the ‘system’ as outlined in Stanislavski’s original Russian publication An Actor’s Work on Oneself. The workshop gives students the opportunity to practically apply The Method of Physical Actions and Active Analysis to a scene from Anton Chekhov’s Three Sisters.

Analysing the techniques and discovering how work in accordance with the text rather than on the text is an effective way of developing characterisation and scene work from the earliest stages of rehearsal.

We will analyse the following script: Masha and Vershinin. Please familiarise yourself with this ahead of the session. You will also need to have access to this text during the session, either as paper or digital copy.
