DESCRIPTION:Register here \n  \n  \n \n  \n  \nWhile votes in the General Election continue to be counted – as a new Government takes power and Parliament takes on a new shape – we are joined by a panel of academic political commentators from The University of East Anglia to discuss the results – and the future they point to. \nPrior to the election there has been a great deal of speculation: about the potential scale of a Labour victory\, tactical voting\, the expected collapse of the Conservative vote\, the implications of Labour’s shift to the centre\, the impact of Reform (and Farage)\, the revival of the Liberal Democrats and the possible rise of the Greens. What answers do the results give? Who rose\, who fell and what comes next? \nJoining us to discuss and debate the election aftermath will be: \nDr Eitan Tzelgov\, Associate Professor in Politics\, an expert on the quantitative analysis of Parliamentary politics and on the international rise of populist and far-right politics. \nDr Sally Broughton Micova\, Associate Professor in Communications\, Policy & Politics and an expert in the role of the media in politics across Europe. \nAlan Finlayson\, Professor of Political & Social Theory who specialises in the study of political rhetoric and writes about British Politics for national newspapers. \nIn a lively\, though perhaps sleep-deprived discussion\, our panel will share their interpretations and expectations whilst inviting audience questions and arguments about the fallout from the election and the key themes likely to dominate the next Parliament. \nJoin us the morning after to explore the night before and the days to come with leading academics and student groups from around the country. \n\n  \nOur events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom or students and teachers can take part as individuals\, either from school or from home. This means that sessions will continue irrespective of possible school closures. \nAs a live\, participative event\, this session will not be recorded but slides and other resources will be shared after the event\, where available. \n  \n\nSuitable for: Key Stage 5 (and equivalent). Students may be studying Politics\, Geography or Sociology\, for example\, but they may also be joining because they have a more general interest in the topic and in the 2024 elections. In addition\, we welcome all those with a potential interest in studying Global Development and related disciplines at university. Students can join in groups with their teachers or as individual participants. \n\n\nPreparation/Pre-Reading: Students are encouraged to consider the topic and the areas for discussion listed above. We are keen to hear audience questions and thoughts/arguments throughout the session. \n\nThe IT Setup: The event will be run on Zoom and participants will be able to join using laptops\, tablets\, and mobile devices. If you are joining as a school group\, we recommend connecting with one device and projecting on to a whiteboard. You will be able to interact with the university via typed comments and questions or via a microphone\, if preferred.
