SUMMARY:Theology & Religious Studies: The Problem of Evil and Suffering With Dr Jonathan Birch From University of Glasgow
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \n  \nAs part of University of Glasgow’s exciting Insight & Skills Series on the Philosophy of Religion\, this live talk\, with Q&A\, will investigate one of the most powerful challenges to the existence and/or nature of God as conceived within monotheistic religions: the presence of evil and suffering in the world. \nReference will be made to the same topic on the Scottish Highers and A Level specifications\, including the theodicy of John Hick\, and a hypothetical answer to an exam question will be modelled. Other approaches from the philosophy of religion will also be considered. \nOur focus will be on how students can demonstrate knowledge\, understanding\, analysis\, and evaluation in their assessed work on this topic. \n  \nOur events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom or students and teachers can take part as individuals\, either from school or from home. This means that sessions will continue irrespective of possible school closures. \nAs a live\, participative event\, this session will not be recorded but slides and other resources will be shared after the event\, where available. \n  \nFor further details about this great series and to see the other events available\, please click below: \n\n\n  \nInsight & Skills Series on the Philosophy of Religion with Glasgow \n\n\n\n  \n  \nLecturer Profile (Please Click): Dr Jonathan Birch \nSuitable for: S5/S6 (Scotland)\, Year 12 (England & Wales) and equivalent students studying\, or with an interest in studying\, Theology & Religious Studies\, and related subjects. \nPreparation/Pre-Reading: No preparation is required although you may may wish to consider questions you have on the topic. \nThe IT Setup: The event will be run on Bluejeans and participants will be able to join using laptops\, tablets\, and mobile devices.
