Theology & Religious Studies: Free Will & Moral Responsibility With Dr Jonathan Birch From University of Glasgow
20th May 2021 @ 16:00 - 17:00
As part of University of Glasgow’s exciting Insight & Skills Series on the Philosophy of Religion, this live talk, with Q&A, will be concerned with one of the defining values of modern times: freedom. More specifically, we will examine the concept of free will and its close connection with moral responsibility, making reference to a range of relevant topics from Scottish Highers and A Level specifications.
We will consider definitions of free will, evaluate arguments for and against the existence of free will, and reflect on the implications of all this for moral agency and accountability.
The focus throughout will be on how students can demonstrate knowledge, understanding, analysis, and evaluation in their assessed work.
Our events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom or students and teachers can take part as individuals, either from school or from home. This means that sessions will continue irrespective of possible school closures.
As a live, participative event, this session will not be recorded but slides and other resources will be shared after the event, where available.
