TESOL/Linguistics/Modern Languages: ‘It’s Hard But It’s Probably Gonna Be Worth It :-)’ – What Makes Students Want To Learn A Language? With Dr Abigail Parrish From Bishop Grosseteste University
21st June 2021 @ 13:30 - 14:30
In this session, Dr Abigail Parrish will introduce students to the importance of motivation to language learning, and the role of the teacher in supporting it.
Students will get directly involved in the discussion through conversation, polls and an online interactive whiteboard. The session will cover:
- Facts & figures about language teaching.
- Reasons people might want to learn a language.
- What we know about motivation?
- How teachers can help students be more motivated.
- Strategies for teachers to use.
Students will gain an insight into the importance of the teacher and of getting to know the students you work with. They will also see how research helps teachers and has practical applications.
Examples & images will also show how a career in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)/ELT (English Language Teaching) can take you all over the world and help people, including refugees.
