In this Study Skills session, Dr Maria Serban, Lecturer in the School of Politics, Philosophy and Area Studies at University of East Anglia, will lead an interactive skills and insight workshop entitled Question Everything? On the Use of Critical Thinking Tools.

In a world of information overload and competing claims, how do we think clearly for ourselves? In this session, we’ll explore some common reasoning pitfalls—like how oversimplified slogans can obscure complex issues, and why our everyday assumptions about “better” choices can sometimes lead us astray.

Through accessible examples from politics, consumer choices, and everyday life, you’ll practice spotting logical problems and questioning what seems obvious.

What’s more, practising these skills will be helpful for evaluating sources, constructing arguments in essays, and engaging critically with course material across all subjects.
