DESCRIPTION:Register here \n  \n \n  \n  \nIn this Sport Psychology session\, Dr Nicholas de Cruz\, Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology in the School of Biosciences at the University of Surrey\, will host an interactive talk for students on Being a Sport Psychologist: From Athlete to Academic. \nPrior to his role at the University of Surrey\, Nicholas developed\, taught\, and led modules on Performance Psychology\, Research Methods\, and Qualitative Research at the Singapore University of Social Sciences. On weekends\, he coached youth athletes for the Singapore Sailing Federation. Notable experiences include being the assistant coach for Singapore’s Paralympic Sailing Team during London 2012 and coaching an Australian sailor for the Youth Olympic Games 2010. \nJoin Nicholas for an engaging and insightful webinar as he shares his journey of transitioning from an international athlete and sailing world champion to an academic in the field of sport psychology. During this session\, you will learn about the evolving field of sport psychology\, the challenges and pivotal moments faced\, and the various avenues available to become a sport psychologist. \nWhether you are an aspiring sport psychologist\, a current athlete\, or simply interested in the intersection of sports and psychology\, this webinar offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable insights into a path that is arguably less travelled. \n  \nSpeaker Profile: Dr Nicholas de Cruz \n\n  \nOur events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom or students and teachers can take part as individuals\, either from school or from home. This means that sessions will continue irrespective of possible school closures. \nAs a live\, participative event\, this session will not be recorded but slides and other resources will be shared after the event\, where available. \n  \nSuitable for: Year 12 & 13 students (and equivalent) studying\, or with a possible interest in studying\, Sport & Exercise Science\, Psychology and related disciplines. Student groups as well as students and teachers joining individually are very welcome. \nPreparation/Pre-Reading: Students may wish to consider the topic in advance and questions they have. Students can also think about questions about studying at university level. \nThe IT Setup: The event will be run on Zoom and participants will be able to join using laptops\, tablets\, and mobile devices. If you are joining as a school group\, we recommend connecting with one device and projecting on to a whiteboard. You will be able to interact with the university via a microphone and/or typed comments and questions.
