SUMMARY:Sociology/Psychology: Skills & Insight - Research Methods - Focus on Ethics With Dr Craig Allison From Solent University
DESCRIPTION:Register here \n  \n \n  \nIn this Sociology/Psychology session\, Dr Craig Allison\, a leading academic from Solent University\, will run an interactive skills and insight workshop for students on Research Methods – Focus on Ethics. \nWith great knowledge comes great responsibility. Social Scientists including psychologists and sociologists often find ourselves in position of authority and power over participants in research or patients that we work with or even our friends and family thanks to knowledge that we hold on social influence and learning. As professionals\, we are tied to strict codes of ethical conduct\, with rules we have to abide with. \nIn this interactive session\, we will discuss the fundamental principles of ethics\, where they come from and why we have them. We will look to apply these principles to topical areas such as research you may wish to conduct as part of your own studies and interactions within online environments. \nThe session will develop skills and approaches to support students in their Sociology/Psychology studies and future aspirations. \n  \nLecturer Profile (Please Click): Dr Craig Allison \n\n  \nOur events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom or students and teachers can take part as individuals\, either from school or from home. This means that sessions will continue irrespective of possible school closures. \nAs a live\, participative event\, this session will not be recorded but slides and other resources will be shared after the event\, where available. \n  \nSuitable for: Year 12 & 13 students (and equivalent) studying\, or with a possible interest in studying\, Sociology/Psychology and related disciplines. \nPreparation/Pre-Reading: Students may wish to consider the topic in advance\, with respect to challenges they may face or questions they have. Students can also think about questions they have about studying Sociology/Psychology at university level. \nThe IT Setup: The event will be run on Bluejeans (similar to Zoom) and participants will be able to join using laptops\, tablets\, and mobile devices. If you are joining as a school group\, we recommend connecting with one device and projecting on to a whiteboard. You will be able to interact with the university via a microphone and/or typed comments and questions. Full details will be sent to those who have registered (see below) prior to the event. \nBooking a Place: This is free for schools and colleges. If you would like to take part in this event\, please register your interest using the link to the registration form below: \nRegister here \n  \n
