Sociology: Class, Capitals and The Sociology of Taste by Paula Surridge, The University of Bristol

27th June 2014 @ 11:20 - 12:20

The session will introduce the ideas of Bourdieu in relation to the study of taste, looking at the idea of social class (what is it?) and capitals (especially cultural capital).

There will be some interactive work, which gets the students to think about different types of taste and cultural activities and position them on a ‘map’ organised by economic and cultural capital.

Suitable for: Year 12

Preparation/Pre-reading: Some handout materials will be sent out in advance but they will not require specific readings or preparation.
