  • University of East Anglia: A number of competing factors determine whether a general or specialised engineering pathway is right for you. In this talk, we will explore how to plan your pathway into the engineering profession by managing your own needs with those from industry. We will use our undergraduate engineering courses at UEA to illustrate this – here it is only after the first year that you need to decide about which pathway to choose: General, Mechanical, Electrical & Electronic, or Energy Engineering. We will show what graduates from each of these pathways are doing now, and finish the session with the opportunity for Q+A. We will be joined by Dr Stefano Landini, Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering and Admissions Director (Engineering) in the School of Engineering, Mathematics and Physics (EMP)

  • University of Glasgow: Dr Henrik Gollee is Senior Lecturer in Biomedical Engineering. This presentation will explore the wide spectrum of study options available at Glasgow, each leading to distinct career paths in exciting engineering fields, including Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Aerospace and Biomedical Engineering, and address the questions that many students have when considering an Engineering degree.

right4me is a series of subject specific online events for 16+ pre-university students.

By hearing from two different universities, University of East Anglia & University of Glasgow, for 30 minutes each, students will appreciate how the further study of Engineering varies between institutions, contributing to the depth of their HE research and assisting informed decision making around the diversity of courses available and whether to specialise or follow a general Engineering path.

In this session both universities will explore the fascinating academic content of their Engineering degree programmes and offer an insight into the teaching and learning experience related to their modules. Both universities will tackle the all important question about whether and when to specialise.

Our events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom or students and teachers can take part as individuals, either from school or from home. There is no charge to take part.

As a live, participative event, this session will not be recorded but slides and other resources will be shared after the event, where available.

Suitable for: 16+ pre-university students with an interest in finding out more about studying Engineering at university.

Preparation/Pre-Reading: Students may wish to consider the 2 talks and discuss some of the key elements in advance. Students can also think about questions they have relating to studying Engineering at university.

The IT Setup: The event will be run on Zoom and participants will be able to join using laptops, tablets, and mobile devices. If you are joining as a school group, we recommend connecting with one device and projecting on to a whiteboard. You will be able to interact with the speakers via typed comments and questions or via a microphone. Full details will be sent to those who have registered (see below) prior to the event.
