SUMMARY:Religious Studies/Philosophy: Religious Pluralism - What Makes Religion 'True'? With Dr Philip Wilson From University of East Anglia
DESCRIPTION:Register here \n  \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \nDr Philip Wilson teaches the Philosophy of Religion at University of East Anglia and\, in this Religious Studies/Philosophy session\, will run an interactive talk for students on Religious Pluralism: What Makes Religion ‘True’? \nIn everyday life\, we value consistency. If Anna tells me that today is Monday and Barbara tells me that today is Tuesday\, then I assume that one of them is making a mistake: or perhaps both of them are making a mistake! What happens\, then\, when we turn to religion? Can more than one religion be true? Can only one be true? Might all religions be true? We have the issue of religious pluralism. \nThis interactive lecture draws on the philosophy of Ludwig Wittgenstein to ask if it is possible to look at religion in ways that differ from how we assess whether Anna or Barbara is right about which day of the week it is. \n  \nLecturer Profile: Dr Philip Wilson \n  \n\n  \nOur events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom or students and teachers can take part as individuals\, either from school or from home. There is no charge to take part. \nAs a live\, participative event\, this session will not be recorded but slides and other resources will be shared after the event\, where available. \n  \nSuitable for: Aged 16+ pre-university students studying\, or with a possible interest in studying\, Religious Studies\, Philosophy and related disciplines. Student groups as well as students and teachers joining individually are very welcome. \nPreparation/Pre-Reading: Students may wish to consider the topic in advance and questions they have. Students can also think about questions about studying at university level. \nThe IT Setup: The event will be run on Zoom and participants will be able to join using laptops\, tablets\, and mobile devices. If you are joining as a school group\, we recommend connecting with one device and projecting on to a whiteboard. You will be able to interact with the speaker via typed comments and questions and/or via a microphone. Full details will be sent to those who have registered (see below) prior to the event. \nBooking a Place: This is free for schools and colleges. If you would like to take part in this event\, please register your interest using the link to the registration form below: \n  \n  \nRegister here \n
