DESCRIPTION: \n  \nAmong the many skills that humans evolved to design their environments\, art-making is among the oldest\, existing far before evidence of written communication. However\, we are still in the early stages of understanding how and why individuals create and respond so powerfully to works of art. \nIn this webinar I will explore how people become art experts\, looking at the role of practice and talent. I will also discuss the psychological value of art creation and appreciation\, and its link to mental health. \nBy the end of the lecture you should understand a bit more about the psychological role of visual art and its link to issues in mental health and human development. \n  \nLecturer Biography: Dr Rebecca Chamberlain \nSuitable for: Year 12s studying or thinking about studying Psychology\, Philosophy\, the Arts\, Neuroscience. \nPreparation/Pre-Reading: To prepare for the webinar\, students are encouraged to consider the following questions: what are the positive impacts of making or looking at art? \nThe IT Setup: The setup is similar to Skype\, using a pc and webcam\, although students take part as a group with the image projected on a whiteboard rather than as individuals in front of lots of pcs.
