Psychology: Studying Psychology at Degree Level with Dr Harriet Allen (Associate Professor) from The University of Nottingham

27th September 2017 @ 12:45 - 13:45

This interactive webinar, led by Dr Harriet Allen, an Associate Professor in the School of Psychology at the University of Nottingham, will introduce students to the concept of Psychology at degree level.

The session will provide an overview of the types of things that students might be able to study as part of the degree and also provide an understanding of the skills that they will develop.

Dr Allen will then build on this to provide students with an idea of the types of careers that graduates have progressed on to whilst also gaining an understanding of how their research has impacted the field of Psychology.

Students will be able to discuss the ideas with Dr Allen and ask questions during the event.

Lecturer Biography: Dr Harriet Allen (Associate Professor)

Suitable for: Year 12 and 13 students with a potential interest in studying Psychology and related degree subjects, such as Cognitive Neuroscience.

Preparation/Pre-Reading: None is required although students may wish to consider and discuss some of the issues prior to the event.

The IT Setup: The setup is similar to Skype, using a pc and webcam, although students take part as a group with the image projected on a whiteboard rather than as individuals in front of lots of pcs. Dedicated videoconferencing equipment is also compatible if available to the school. We will work with your IT department to ensure everything is set up and working prior to the event. The sessions are generally limited to 3 or 4 schools to maintain the interactive nature of the experience.

Booking a Place: This event is being run following a request from an individual school. If you have a group of students that you think would benefit from taking part in this event, please contact us via email or via the contact form at the top right of this webpage (or at the bottom if you are using a mobile device). This will then be considered with the school involved and the university in light of places already made available to other schools.
