DESCRIPTION:Register here \n\n  \n \n  \nAround 4.9 million people in the UK are informal carers (House of Commons). The role of a social worker is not only to work with people in need of care and support\, but also with those people who take care of them. \nIn this session\, Marietjie Joubert\, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Social Sciences and Nursing at Solent University\, will explore: who are informal carers? In particular\, we will examine the role of social workers in identifying and supporting informal carers. \nMarietjie will draw upon her extensive experience as a social worker for children and families and in adult services in the UK and South Africa. In addition\, Marietjie will offer insights from the social work programme at Solent University. \n  \nLecturer Profile: Marietjie Joubert \n\n  \nOur events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom\, or students and teachers can take part as individuals\, either from school or from home. This means that sessions will continue irrespective of possible school closures. \nAs a live\, participative event\, this session will not be recorded but access to the Headliner recording will continue to be accessible. \n  \nSuitable for: Key Stage 5\, and equivalent\, students studying or with an interest in studying Sociology\, Health & Social and Psychology\, and related subjects. Teachers and members of school staff\, as always\, are welcome too and participants can join as individuals from school/college or home\, or as a group from school/college. \nPreparation/Pre-Reading: Students are asked to watch the Headliner recording and consider some of the key issues and any questions raised. \nThe IT Setup: The event will be run on Zoom and participants will be able to join using laptops\, tablets\, and mobile devices. If you are joining as a school group\, we recommend connecting with one device and projecting on to a whiteboard. You will be able to interact with the university via a microphone and/or typed comments and questions.
