SUMMARY:Politics: Climate Change & Political Ideologies With Professor Milja Kurki From Aberystwyth University
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \nIn this Politics webinar for school and college students and teachers\, Professor Milja Kurki  from Aberystwyth University asks How do we Tackle Climate Change and What do Political Ideologies Have to do With It?’ \nClimate change and related ecological challenges present some fundamental challenges to politics on the planet: local\, national and global. But how can climate change be tackled when states and communities often focus on securing their own survival and prosperity\, at the expense of others’? And what is the relevance of ‘political ideologies’ in addressing the cutting edge challenges of climate change? \nIn this session\, Milja shows how both classical and more recently developed political ideologies are highly relevant to today’s climate debates and demonstrates how they are tied up with bringing about change – if very different kinds of change! \nNow that schools are closed due to COVID-19\, we are delighted to be able to offer this session as a Channel Talent At Home event. The session will be run so students can access it from home with the ability to interact (See The IT Setup below). \n  \nLecturer Profile (Please Click): Professor Milja Kurki \nSuitable for: Year 12 and 13 students (and equivalent) studying\, or with a possible interest in studying\, Politics and related disciplines. You may also have broader interests in Climate Change covering disciplines such as Geography\, and Business\, for example. Teachers are also very welcome to join; please feel free to make it a class event. \nPreparation/Pre-Reading: Students may wish to consider the topic and the key elements in advance. Students can also think about questions they have about studying Politics at university level. \nThe IT Setup: The event will be run with one\, smaller\, audience on Bluejeans (similar to Zoom) and a larger audience\, simultaneously\, on Facebook Live. The smaller group in the Bluejeans meeting can engage using their microphones to talk directly to the university academics. The Facebook audience has the ability to ask questions and offer thoughts via comments on Facebook. In both cases\, participants will be able to join using laptops\, tablets\, and mobile devices. \nBooking a Place: This is free for schools and colleges. If you would like to take part\, please join the session on Facebook by clicking the following link: Climate Change & Political Ideologies with Aberystwyth \n(Our places on Bluejeans are all now booked but you are very welcome on Facebook) \n
