SUMMARY:Physics: Using Physics To Investigate The Realities Of Climate Change With Dr Rachel Cross & Dr Huw Morgan From Aberystwyth University
DESCRIPTION: \n  \nIn this interactive lecture\, physicists from Aberystwyth University will discuss how we are working on issues linked to climate change. Students will be asked regular questions during the session and are free to asks questions throughout. \nPhysics touches many aspects of our everyday life in ways you may not realise; from the study of the very small in materials physics to the very large in space physics. In this session we will consider the different careers using physics and some of the ways physics is being used to investigate the realities of climate change. \nThe session will discuss the fundamental physics behind some of the effects of climate change being observed\, how we use space weather observations\, and the research into renewable energy sources\, such as solar\, to meet our rising energy demands in a sustainable way. \nThe key topics discussed in this session are: \n\nCareers in physics\nFundamental physics of climate change – Newton’s Cooling Law\nSpace weather and climate change\nRenewable energy sources – Solar\n\n  \nLecturer Profile (Please Click): Dr Rachel Cross & Dr Huw Morgan \nSuitable for: Year 10 to 13 students (and equivalent) studying\, or with a possible interest in studying\, Physics and/or students with a more general interest in Climate Change. Teachers are also very welcome to join; please feel free to make it a class event. \nPreparation/Pre-Reading: No preparation or pre-reading is required. \nThe IT Setup: The event will be run with one\, smaller\, audience on Bluejeans (similar to Zoom) and a larger audience\, simultaneously\, on Facebook Live. The smaller group in the Bluejeans meeting can engage using their microphones to talk directly to the university academics. The Facebook audience has the ability to ask questions and offer thoughts via comments on Facebook. In both cases\, participants will be able to join using laptops\, tablets\, and mobile devices. \nBooking a Place: This is free for schools and colleges. The places on Bluejeans are now booked but please do join us on Facebook by clicking below: \nJOIN US ON FACEBOOK \n  \n  \n\n
