DESCRIPTION: \nHave you ever wondered about choosing Philosophy for your degree\, but weren’t quite sure what it might involve? Or maybe you’re interested in studying it\, but puzzled about what Philosophy students go on to do afterwards…\n\nPhilosophy looks at fundamental questions\, which we’re all likely to have to think about at some time. Is democracy the best way to organise society? Is euthanasia\, or even writing ‘do not resuscitate’ on medical notes permissible? How should a juror decide whether an accused intended the death of their victim? \nStudying Philosophy involves learning about how people have answered such questions\, and how to think through the issues for yourself. Philosophy graduates are highly valued by employers and go on to work in an interesting range of careers. \nThis talk will provide you with some more information about studying Philosophy at the University of Sheffield. \nThis session forms part of The University of Sheffield’s Philosophy week. It is also suitable for any other students who think they may be interested in studying Philosophy at university. \nLecturer Biography (Please click): Komarine Romdenh-Romluc \nPreparation or Pre-Reading: We recommend that students consider some questions in advance relevant to the subject matter. \nThe IT Setup: The setup is similar to Skype\, using a pc and webcam\, although students take part as a group with the image projected on a whiteboard rather than as individuals in front of lots of pcs. Dedicated videoconferencing equipment is also compatible if available to the school. We will work with your IT department to ensure everything is set up and working prior to the event.
