Nursing: The Role of The Nurse In Secure & Forensic Mental Health Settings With Dr Paul Linsley From University of East Anglia
June 24 @ 13:35 - 14:20
In this Nursing session, Dr Paul Linsley, Associate Professor in Nursing Sciences in the School of Health Sciences at University of East Anglia, will run an interactive talk for students on The Role of the Nurse in Secure and Forensic Mental Health Settings.
The challenge of keeping patients safe at times when they may be especially vulnerable and are outwardly exhibiting challenging behaviour is an important part of mental health nursing. Managing the risk and preventing challenging behaviour is concerned with understanding the reasons for a person’s distress by recognising their vulnerability, anticipating needs and designing care accordingly. The need to manage risk and vulnerability is even more acute in forensic mental health settings where people will have committed a criminal offence and be detained under the Mental Health Act.
This talk will explore the role of the nurse in secure and forensic mental health settings including working in different custodial environments.
