SUMMARY:Media: Media Representation - Identity With Professor Barnie Choudhury From University of East Anglia
DESCRIPTION:Register here \n  \n  \n  \n \n  \nProfessor Barnie Choudhury\, award winning journalist and Lecturer in Broadcast and Multimedia Journalism\, will present Still hideously all white on the night: why are we failing when it comes to ethnic representation in media? \nIt’s been 22 years since the then BBC director general\, Greg Dyke\, said his institution was “hideously white“. A generation on\, what has changed? We see more people of colour on our screens and hear them on our airwaves\, but where true power lies – those with budgets and the ability to hire and fire – nothing has changed. \nIn this session\, Barnie will be considering why we don’t seem to be making progress; how people of colour can take control of their own destinies; and what is being done to change the lack of racial representation in media. \n  \nLecturer Profile (Please Click): Professor Barnie Choudhury \n  \n\n  \nOur events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom or students and teachers can take part as individuals\, either from school or from home. This means that sessions will continue irrespective of possible school closures. \nAs a live\, participative event\, this session will not be recorded but slides and other resources will be shared after the event\, where available. \n  \nSuitable for: Year 12 & 13 students (and equivalent) studying\, or with a possible interest in studying\, Media and related disciplines. Student groups\, and individual students and teachers are very welcome to join us. \nPreparation/Pre-Reading: Students may wish to consider the topic and discuss some of the key elements in advance. Students can also think about questions they have about studying Media at university level. \nThe IT Setup: The event will be run on Bluejeans (similar to Zoom) and participants will be able to join using laptops\, tablets\, and mobile devices. If you are joining as a school group\, we recommend connecting with one device and projecting on to a whiteboard. You will be able to interact with the university via a microphone and/or typed comments and questions. Full details will be sent to those who have registered (see below) prior to the event. \nBooking a Place: This is free for schools and colleges. If you would like to take part in this event\, please register your interest using the link to the registration form below: \n  \nRegister here \n  \n
