Dr Ekaterina Rozanova, Lecturer in the Department of Politics and International Relations at Goldsmiths, University of London, will present BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) and the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) – What opportunities and challenges do these two regional organizations offer for world peace and prosperity?

With the onset of yet another devastating war that has impacted not only Ukraine, but the entire globe, the world desperately needs real solutions to global peace as well as issues like food security, financial stability, and sustainable environmental and health policies. Often underreported in the Western media, but the BRICS economy has become stronger than that of the G7, and the SCO covers almost twice as much population as NATO.

Ekaterina will begin by introducing and exploring the wider concept and role of regional organizations and then, as this session introduces the BRICS and the SCO regional organizations, we will ask ourselves why the BRICS and SCO have remained unmentioned for the most part in the Western world, and what contributions they can make to world peace and prosperity?
