Information Studies: Before, During & Beyond … Information Studies With Dr Anoush Simon, Senior Lecturer in Information Studies, Jacqueline Jarocki, Alumna, & Jeff Chilton, Student Recruitment Officer From Aberystwyth University
30th June 2021 @ 17:00 - 18:00
We are delighted to present the Before, During and Beyond … series from Aberystwyth University in which each event focuses on a particular subject area to introduce the decisions that need to be made before choosing a degree course, the study period itself and how University alumni have succeeded beyond studying the course.
Before, During & Beyond … Information Studies
As well as giving you some hints and tips to enhance your UCAS application to an Information Studies related degree, this session will introduce the broad subject of Information Studies, including:
- the courses available at Aberystwyth University
- the type of subjects you can expect to study
- potential career destinations and future prospects following a Degree within the area. We’ll have a previous student from the discipline who’ll be on hand to discuss their journey!
In addition, to give you an insight into what you can expect on an Information Studies Degree, we will also be focussing on “Censorship and Freedom of Expression in the digital age”.
You will be introduced to some key issues and discussions around the concepts freedom of expression and related to this, censorship. In an age where information and opinions can be expressed and replicated across multiple platforms and in different contexts, we can consider issues like:
- Does truth matter – does freedom of expression give you the right to say whatever you like?
- What is censorship?
- How and in what contexts is ‘censorship’ justified?
- Does the internet make it impossible to suppress or control information?
Whether you are looking to find out more about studying Information Studies or wishing to engage in a mini lecture from our academic expert on Censorship and Freedom of Expression in the digital age, this session is for you!
The format is accessible, friendly, informative and participative.
