History: France in Revolution – A Visual History Of France From The ‘Old Regime’ To Napoleon With Dr David Gilks From University of East Anglia
23rd May 2023 @ 14:00 - 14:50
In this History session, Dr David Gilks, Lecturer in Modern European History in the School of History at UEA, will run an interactive talk for students on France in Revolution – A Visual History Of France From The ‘Old Regime’ To Napoleon.
In this online interactive event David Gilks will explore the origins and nature of the French Revolution and the rise of Napoleon. We will together examine several visual sources and very short extracts of primary sources, using them as pegs on which to hang the wider story of revolutionary France and to understand ideological changes between the ‘Old regime’ and Napoleonic Empire.
The event therefore provides a refreshing approach to the period – one that encourages you to think beyond the curriculum but that also provides an entertaining entry-point to anyone unfamiliar with the subject.
