SUMMARY:History: The Tudor State & The Wider World with Dr Jessica Sharkey from University of East Anglia
DESCRIPTION:Register here \n  \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \nIn this History session\, Dr Jessica Sharkey\, Associate Professor in Early Modern History in the School of History and Art History at University of East Anglia\, will run an interactive talk for students on The Tudor State and The Wider World. \nThis session will begin by examining the Tudor state itself: how authority was exercised\, how government functioned\, and how monarchs from Henry VII to Elizabeth I sought to manage and extend their power. It will introduce students to key themes of Tudor government whilst highlighting notable developments in the field of historical research. The second part of the session will widen the lens\, placing the Tudor state in a broader international context. Here\, we will draw on recent scholarship to explore diplomacy\, trade\, warfare\, and cultural contact to show how historians now study the Tudors through an international and comparative approach rather than purely through national narratives. \n  \nLecturer Profile: Dr Jessica Sharkey \n  \n\n  \nOur events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom or students and teachers can take part as individuals\, either from school or from home. There is no charge to take part. \nAs a live\, participative event\, this session will not be recorded but slides and other resources will be shared after the event\, where available. \n  \nSuitable for: 16+ pre-university students studying\, or with a possible interest in studying\, History and related disciplines. Student groups as well as students and teachers joining individually are very welcome. \nPreparation/Pre-Reading: Students may wish to consider the topic in advance and questions they have. Students can also think about questions about studying at university level. \nThe IT Setup: The event will be run on Zoom and participants will be able to join using laptops\, tablets\, and mobile devices. If you are joining as a school group\, we recommend connecting with one device and projecting on to a whiteboard. You will be able to interact with the speaker via typed comments and questions and/or via a microphone.
