History: Soviet Statue Toppling – Study Skills For History With Professor Alexander Watson, Deputy Head of History At Goldsmiths, University of London

27th May 2021 @ 14:00 - 15:00

Studying history at university is not only about becoming an adept researcher, who can present a convincing argument. When your studies cover issues such as Black Lives Matter, cultural persecution, revolutions and regime change, this also builds your emotional intelligence and cross-cultural awareness.

Using images of once revered monuments and statues being toppled and defaced, and texts that explore the power and symbolism of this form of protest, Professor Alex Watson and history students from Goldsmiths will cover the study skills needed to prepare for seminar discussions and writing essays at university.

In preparation for this session, you will be given two images and an article about statue toppling in the Soviet Union/Soviet Bloc to review with questions to guide your analysis.

Our events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom or students and teachers can take part as individuals, either from school or from home. This means that sessions will continue irrespective of possible school closures.

As a live, participative event, this session will not be recorded but slides and other resources will be shared after the event, where available.
