Health & Social Care: Your Role In Health & Social Care – Gaining Practical Experience While Studying For A Degree With Dr Alistair Hunter From University of Glasgow

14th June 2022 @ 15:35 - 16:20

Join Dr Alistair Hunter, Programme Director for Health & Social Sector Leadership at the University of Glasgow, as he explores what we mean by health and social care, and the multitude of roles within these sectors.

Through practical experience, including placements, the Health & Social Sector Leadership programme at the University of Glasgow offers a route into diverse roles across these sectors. With a changing landscape across the UK and around the world in relation to health and social care professions, as well as an emphasis on service integration, the need for innovative thinking and leadership has never been more important.

What we have seen from evidence across our communities, in particular throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, is that it is the most vulnerable in society who feel the greatest impact of health and social inequality. This interactive session will look at the concepts of health, the different services within the sector and the implications of decisions across these sectors on individuals.

Every decision made within the health and social sectors has a direct impact on the lives of those in our communities. During this session, we will explore what we mean by ‘health’ – what does healthy living look like? What principles do we use to make these judgements? Dr Hunter will also provide information on the degree programme, based at the University of Glasgow’s Dumfries Campus. This degree programme allows students to develop critical analysis skills, gain practical experience and broaden their understanding of the different mechanisms across society so that they can ultimately drive change.
