HE Guidance: Transitioning From School Or College To University With Lydia Newton, Mirela Costache & Current Students From University of East Anglia
21st June 2023 @ 16:30 - 17:15
In this webinar, UEA’s Higher Education Adviser team will deliver an interactive session that talks you through what to expect in your first few weeks as a student as well as exploring some of the support systems and strategies available to you. They will also be joined by a current UEA student who will share their experiences of starting university and tips on what worked for them.
We will cover:
- How studying at university might be different to what you’ve experienced up until now
- What extra and super-curricular activities you can be doing now to build skills and inform your next steps
- What ‘welcome week’ involves, and how to make the most of it
- What support is available to you to help with your finances, studies, and wellbeing at university
- Tips from a current student on navigating university life for the first time.
There will also be plenty of time for you to ask questions at the end.
Our events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom or students and teachers can take part as individuals, either from school or from home. This means that sessions will continue irrespective of possible school closures.
As a live, participative event, this session will not be recorded but slides and other resources will be shared after the event, where available.
Suitable for: Year 12 & 13 students (and equivalent) who have applied or are considering applying to study at university. Advisers, teachers and parents/carers are also very welcome to join us.
Preparation/Pre-Reading: Students may wish to consider questions they have about the transition to university.
The IT Setup: The event will be run on Bluejeans and participants will be able to join using laptops, tablets, and mobile devices. If you are joining as a school group, we recommend connecting with one device and projecting on to a whiteboard. You will be able to interact with the university via a microphone and/or typed comments and questions. Full details will be sent to those who have registered (see below) prior to the event.
Booking a Place: This is free for schools and colleges. If you would like to take part in this event, please register your interest using the link to the registration form below:
