HE Guidance: The Transition to University – Guiding Students through University Life and Support with Ellie Cook from Aberystwyth University

This session gives students guidance through what to expect from university life, highlighting the support available at university and advice to aid the transition. A number of topics will be covered, including information on applying for Disabled Student’s Allowance, how to build a support network at university, budgeting and what the transition to university will look like from a social and academic perspective.
Everyone deals with transitions differently, and all students will have questions and concerns surrounding student life, alongside a lot of excitement.
Join Ellie from Aberystwyth University whilst she offers a rounded overview of life at university, whether you are interested in Aber or not, this engaging and interactive session will leave you excited for your next steps into student life. There will be plenty of time for questions at the end if you wish to ask any.

Our events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom, or students and teachers can take part as individuals, either from school or from home. There is no charge to take part.
As a live, participative event, this session will not be recorded but slides will be shared, where available.
Suitable for: All students currently applying, or considering applying, to university. We encourage parents and carers to also attend the session to better understand how to support their young person.
Preparation/Pre-Reading: Students may wish to consider questions they have about their transition to university and the support that is available for them.
The IT Setup: The event will be run on Zoom and participants will be able to join using laptops, tablets, and mobile devices. If you are joining as a school group, we recommend connecting with one device and projecting on to a whiteboard. You will be able to interact with the university via a microphone and/or typed comments and questions. Full details will be sent to those who have registered (see below) prior to the event.
