SUMMARY:HE Guidance: Personal Statements – Making The Edits That Matter With Elizabeth McCullough From Goldsmiths\, University Of London
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n \n  \n  \nOnce you’ve written the first draft of your personal statement\, how can you improve it through the editing process? \nElizabeth McCullough is the Interim Head UK/EU Student Recruitment and Widening Participation at Goldsmiths\, University of London and\, in this session\, will focus on the changes that can make a substantive difference to the impression you convey\, to an admissions tutor\, through your personal statement. \nWe will consider which examples make an impact\, which details to include (and exclude)\, phrasing and vocabulary\, and opening and closing sentences. We’ll also take a step back so you can assess the overall balance of a personal statement. \nDuring this session\, it is useful to have a copy of your personal statement to hand so that you can apply some of the editing suggestions to your work. \nOur events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom or students and teachers can take part as individuals\, either from school or from home. This means that sessions will continue irrespective of possible school closures. \n  \n  \nSuitable for: Any student who is in the process of writing their UCAS personal statement. Individual students are welcome to take part from home or school/college as well as groups of students taking part from a classroom. \nPreparation/Pre-Reading: We recommend that students have a copy of their personal statement to hand so that some of the editing suggestions can be applied to their work. \nThe IT Setup: The event will be run on Bluejeans and participants will be able to join using laptops\, tablets\, and mobile devices. If you are joining as a school group\, we recommend connecting with one device and projecting on to a whiteboard. You will be able to interact with the university via a microphone and/or typed comments and questions. Full details will be sent to those who have registered (see below) prior to the event. \nBooking a Place: This is free for schools and colleges. If you would like to take part in this event\, please register your interest using the link to the registration form below: \nRegister Here \n  \n  \n\n
