Are you starting to delve into the world of University Open Days?
Have you been to an Open Day already and got more in your diary or aren’t ensure where to start?
Do you feel nervous yet exciting about the thought of visiting a new town or city?
We know your time is precious and so, wherever you are at in your Open Day research journey, this session will help you not only maximise the time you spend attending them, but also how to make the most of the opportunity of visiting the universities you are interested in.
Areas we’ll be focussing on include:
- Planning to do before you attend… and follow up afterwards
- Must dos at the Open Day itself
- Insider questions you should always ask
- Exploring the location (town/ city)
- What to consider if the Open Day is virtual
- Hearing from an academic expert and recent Aber graduate
Attending university Open Days is one of the most important pieces of research you will do when choosing a university, so come and hear from our experts who can help you conduct this research effectively, which in turn, will help you make informed decisions.
Jeff Chilton, one of Aberystwyth’s renowned Student Recruitment Officers, will provide his own experiences alongside current students and will be posing questions for you to consider.

Our events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom or students and teachers can take part as individuals, either from school or from home. This means that sessions will continue irrespective of school closures.
Suitable for: Years 12 and 13 or equivalent students taking part in student groups or as individuals. Learners can be studying any subject(s). Advisers, teachers and parents are very welcome too.
Preparation or Pre-Reading: There is no formal preparation or pre-reading but participants may like to consider in advance some questions relevant to the topic.
The IT Setup: The event will be run on Bluejeans and participants will be able to join using laptops, tablets, and mobile devices. If you are joining as a school group, we recommend connecting with one device and projecting on to a whiteboard. You will be able to interact with the university via a microphone and/or typed comments and questions. Full details will be sent to those who have registered (see below) prior to the event.
