Join us for a friendly and interactive webinar with The University of East Anglia (UEA). This in-depth session will provide helpful advice to give you a head start with writing your personal statement from a university perspective.
In the first 30 minutes of the session we’ll cover:
– What universities are looking for
– Real-life personal statement examples for you to discuss and critique
– Dos and don’ts: what to include, what to avoid
– Types of pre-university experience you can include in your statement
– Practical tips to get started
The final 15 minutes is an opportunity for you to stay online and ask us any questions you might have about writing your statement or applying to university.
Everyone that attends will be sent a digital workbook, which you can complete in your own time after the webinar. The workbook will help you to gather your content, structure your thoughts and get going with that difficult first draft.
Parents and carers are also welcome to attend the session, to better understand how to support their young person.
Our events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom, or students and teachers can take part as individuals, either from school or from home. This means that sessions will continue irrespective of possible school closures.
As a live, participative event, this session will not be recorded but slides and other resources will be shared after the event, where available.
Suitable for: All students currently applying, or considering applying, to university this academic year. Parents and carers are also welcome to attend the session, to better understand how to support their young person.
Preparation/Pre-Reading: Students may wish to consider questions they have about applying to university and completing their Personal Statement.
The IT Setup: The event will be run on Bluejeans and participants will be able to join using laptops, tablets, and mobile devices. If you are joining as a school group, we recommend connecting with one device and projecting on to a whiteboard. You will be able to interact with the university via a microphone and/or typed comments and questions. Full details will be sent to those who have registered (see below) prior to the event.
