HE Guidance: Clearing In Five Easy Steps – A Session For Students & Their Parents Or Carers With Alix Delany, Head of Admissions At University of East Anglia
25th July 2022 @ 18:00 - 18:45
THE LIVE SESSION HAS ALREADY TAKEN PLACE BUT PLEASE FIND BELOW A RECAP VIDEO FROM MEGAN BROUGHTON, HIGHER EDUCATION ADVISER AT UEA
Results day is just around the corner, and even if you’re not planning on using clearing, it’s a good idea to be prepared for all eventualities! And if you haven’t applied for university yet, it’s not too late, with plenty of great courses still available to you through clearing.
In this session for students and their parents or carers, the University of East Anglia (UEA) will cover everything you need to know about clearing – including the chance to hear a mock call – so you’ll know just what to expect when the big day arrives.
The session will be led by Alix Delany, Head of Admissions at UEA, along with a Higher Education Adviser.
We’ll cover:
- What is clearing?
A jargon-free explanation of clearing: how does it work, who is it for and what are the benefits. - What happens on results day?
A step-by-step guide of what happens, when. - How can I prepare?
Simple tips to make sure you make the right decisions, without feeling panicked or overwhelmed. - What happens on the call?
It can be daunting to pick up the phone. Listen in on our mock call so you’ll know just what to expect, and know you have nothing to worry about. You can also find out about options that don’t involve the phone at all, such as live chat. - What’s it like to go through clearing?
Don’t just take our word for it. Hear from a current university student sharing their experience of getting a university place through clearing.
There will also be plenty of time to ask any questions you might have.
Teachers and advisers are welcome to join the session.
Our events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom or students and teachers can take part as individuals, either from school or from home. This means that sessions will continue irrespective of possible school closures.
As a live, participative event, this session will not be recorded but slides and other resources will be shared after the event, where available.
Suitable for: All students who have already applied for university or those still thinking about applying through Clearing. This is also open to parents/carers and teachers/advisers, who will be very welcome..
Preparation/Pre-Reading: Students may wish to consider the topic in advance, with respect to challenges they may face or questions they have.
The IT Setup: The event will be run on Bluejeans (similar to Zoom) and participants will be able to join using laptops, tablets, and mobile devices. If you are joining as a school group, we recommend connecting with one device and projecting on to a whiteboard. You will be able to interact with the university via a microphone and/or typed comments and questions. Full details will be sent to those who have registered (see below) prior to the event.
Booking a Place: This is free for schools and colleges. If you would like to take part in this event, please register your interest using the link to the registration form below:
