DESCRIPTION:Register here \n  \n  \n \n  \n  \nDuring this French session\, Sylvain Pourciel\, lecturer in French at the University of East Anglia\, will run an interactive session on the highly acclaimed novel “No et Moi”\, written by Delphine de Vigan and published in 2007. \nIn this coming-of-age story\, Lou\, a 13-year-old girl with a higher intellectual potential and a family buried in grief\, finds a friend in No\, a young homeless girl who lives in the streets of Paris. \nIn this interactive talk\, we will delve into how the symmetrical structure of the novel allows us to apprehend different forms of homelessness. We will aim to discuss how social classes\, past traumas\, broken families\, and the very city they live in have fostered both the extreme loneliness felt by the characters and the strong attraction they have for one another. We will also analyse how\, through the eyes of Lou\, these colliding universes are depicted. \nThe session will be run in English\, but many examples from the text\, as well as the film adaptation will be used to illustrate the views expressed. It is recommended to have read the book and/or watched the film to be able to make the most of the session. \n  \nLecturer Profile: Sylvain Pourciel \n\n  \nOur events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom or students and teachers can take part as individuals\, either from school or from home. There is no charge to take part. \nAs a live\, participative event\, this session will not be recorded but slides and other resources will be shared after the event\, where available. \n  \nSuitable for: Aged 16+ pre-university students studying\, or with a possible interest in studying\, French and related disciplines. Student groups as well as students and teachers joining individually are very welcome. \nPreparation/Pre-Reading: It is recommended to have read the book and/or watched the film to be able to make the most of the session. Students can also think about questions about studying at university level. \nThe IT Setup: The event will be run on Zoom and participants will be able to join using laptops\, tablets\, and mobile devices. If you are joining as a school group\, we recommend connecting with one device and projecting on to a whiteboard. You will be able to interact with the speaker via typed comments and questions and/or via a microphone.
