In this Modern Languages/French session, Ilse Renaudie, Associate Professor in French Language in the School of Media, Language and Communication Studies at UEA, will run an interactive talk for students on French Politics: Macron & Beyond.

In this interactive talk about French politics, we will be looking back at the French political landscape since Emmanuel Macron‘s first election as President and the start of a movement bringing voices together to operate beyond long established political parties.

How have national and international events since then impacted his vision and strategy and how can we explain the instability of domestic politics with several Government collapses in the past few years?

With all eyes on the 2027 elections and opinion polls showing the far-right Rassemblement National growing in popularity, we will explore what may happen next and in what ways national leadership elections in today’s world have far wider social, economic and geopolitical implications.

Lecturer Profile: Ilse Renaudie teaches French language and cultures as well as translation between French and English. Through her teaching, she is particularly interested in the development of fluency and phraseology through translation as well as through collaborative project work. Ilse teaches French language from first to final undergraduate and has experience of coordinating students’ period abroad. In her classes, she often uses news items, with various purposes including summarising, translating, acquiring vocabulary and comparing the presentation of news across languages as well as within French national and regional or local news.
