Forensic Science: Digging up the Bodies with Dr David Errickson from University of Portsmouth
November 26 @ 16:15 - 17:00
Join David Errickson, Senior Lecturer Forensic Science, in this interactive workshop where you will follow an investigation from the scene to the laboratory, making decisions about how human remains and associated evidence should be located, recovered, documented and interpreted. Along the way, you will encounter some of the practical, scientific and ethical challenges faced by forensic practitioners.
The scenario will introduce the challenging circumstances in which forensic scientists may work, demonstrating the observational, archaeological, investigative and interpretative skills required to examine a scene systematically and reconstruct what may have happened.
You will consider how evidence is recognised and recorded, how a human skeleton could be recovered, and how different forms of evidence can be brought together to develop and test interpretations.
But finding the evidence is only part of the forensic process. You will follow your evidence back to the laboratory. To find out who this skeleton might be.
David will then put the exercise into context by introducing Forensic Science at University of Portsmouth, explaining how studying forensic science develops the scientific, critical-thinking and investigative skills required for careers across forensic investigation and related disciplines.
