In this live and interactive Film Society, Dr Nicholas Grant, Associate Professor of United States History in the School of Art, Media and American Studies at UEA, will discuss/debate Do The Right Thing by Spike Lee.

This session will focus on the historical and political context that shaped the production of and reaction to Spike Lee’s ‘Do The Right Thing’. We will discuss important themes relating to race, identity, police violence and gentrification in the United States. As well as examining the way in which Spike Lee addresses the politics of Black protest through the film.

We invite the audience to shape the discussion with presubmitted and live questions and thoughts relating to key themes of the film. Please submit these HERE.

Expect a lively and dynamic session in which you will hear a wide range of different perspectives and insights and feel secure to contribute your own.
