SUMMARY:Extended Project Qualification: Getting Started With The Extended Project Qualification With Katrina Lueddeke From University of Southampton
DESCRIPTION:Register here \n  \n  \n \n  \n  \nThe first session in our EPQ series will be delivered by Katrina Lueddeke\, the Academic Skills Manager for the Learn with US Transition programme at the University of Southampton. \nThe aim of this session is to increase students’ understanding of the Extended Project Qualification. Though the session is directed at students studying the EPQ\, teachers are very welcome\, either individually or with their groups. \nThe session will: \n\nOutline the requirements and benefits of studying the EPQ (including how the EPQ supports teaching and learning in higher education).\nExplore and apply techniques for identifying a project idea that is well-informed\, focussed and based on a strong rationale which offers extensive scope for project development.\nOutline the importance of identifying clear\, realistic and appropriate aims and objectives which can be embedded throughout project implementation.\n\n  \nPreparatory Work \nThough it is not essential to complete the preparatory work before the session\, you might find the session even more useful if you have carried out the following tasks: \nTask 1: List at least 3 key interests of yours. These interests can be anything from hobbies\, subjects you study (or want to study in the future) to current issues. \nTask 2: For each of your key interests\, write a brief sentence elaborating on WHY this interests you (avoid just saying ‘I find it interesting’ – explain why?!) \nExtension: Begin researching your key interests by searching key terms in search engines. It may be relevant and useful to research about your interest in recent news. You could even look out for relevant podcasts and YouTube videos. You can research anything for your EPQ\, so pick something you find interesting and exciting. This will keep you motivated throughout the project! \nTask 3: Read this information (a 1-minute read) about what they EPQ is\, what the EPQ involves\, how the EPQ is graded and its benefits. \n  \nPlease note that\, although the session is scheduled to end at 14:45\, Katrina will stay on until 15:00 to answer further questions about the session and about the EPQ\, more generally.    \n  \nSpeaker Profile: Katrina Lueddeke \n  \nFor forthcoming sessions in this great EPQ series with Learn with US at University of Southampton\, please see below and click for details: \n  \nUniversity of Southampton – EPQ Series \n  \n\n  \nOur events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom or students and teachers can take part as individuals\, either from school or from home. This means that sessions will continue irrespective of possible school closures. \nAs a live\, participative event\, this session will not be recorded but slides and other resources will be shared after the event\, where available. \n  \nSuitable for: Year 12 & 13 students (and equivalent) studying for an Extended Project Qualification. Individual students and teachers as well as groups taking part from a classroom are very welcome indeed. \nPreparation/Pre-Reading: See above. \nThe IT Setup: The event will be run on Zoom and participants will be able to join using laptops\, tablets\, and mobile devices. If you are joining as a school group\, we recommend connecting with one device and projecting on to a whiteboard.
