In this English Language/Literature session, Dr Natalia Kampakli, Lecturer in Applied Linguistics from University of Reading, will run an interactive skills and insight workshop for students on Grammatical Analysis/Parsing – Analysing English Clauses: SV, SVO or SVC?

This 1-hour session will introduce students to the simple clause structures of English and to a system of parsing useful for the syntactic analysis of clauses.

We will start by identifying word classes before moving on to defining the main elements of clauses, such as the Subject, Verb, Object and Subject Complement.

We will then work together on analysing the kinds of phrases which express these clause elements in different activities.

The session will develop skills and approaches to support students in their English Language/Literature studies.
