DESCRIPTION: \n\nCharis Lestrange is from the Faculty of Engineering at The University of Sheffield. In this interactive webinar\, Charis will talk to students about the different branches of engineering and the range of university courses available to them.\n\nCharis is part of the Engineering is . . .  campaign which encourages more girls to enter the engineering profession. Consequently\, although this session is suitable for all students\, Charis will be using examples of female engineers and talking about the role of the Women in Engineering Society. \nThe interactive session will address a number of aspects of studying engineering at University\, including: \nWhat is engineering? \nA brief look into the different types of engineering \nWhat can I do with an engineering degree? \nMeet the Women in Engineering society – what is it really like to be a female in engineering? \nA day in the life of an engineering student \n\nSuitable for: Years 11\, 12 or 13. This subject session is an invaluable briefing for Year 12 students\, who are taking A-level Maths or Physics\, and will be visiting UCAS fairs in the spring and early summer.  It will also be extremely useful for GCSE students who are considering their A-level choices.\n\n\nPreparation or Pre-Reading: We recommend that students consider some questions in advance relevant to their particular interests in the possibility of the further study of engineering. \nThe IT Setup: The setup is similar to Skype\, using a pc and webcam\, although students take part as a group with the image projected on a whiteboard rather than as individuals in front of lots of pcs. Dedicated videoconferencing equipment is also compatible if available to the school. We will work with your IT department to ensure everything is set up and working prior to the event. The sessions are generally limited to 3 or 4 schools to maintain the interactive nature of the experience. \nBooking a Place: Initial invitations have been sent out to schools that have expressed an interest to The University of Sheffield in Engineering events. If\, however\, you have a group that you think would benefit from this or from a repeat of it\, please contact us via email or via the contact form at the top right of this webpage. We may be able to book a place on this session but\, if not\, we will highlight your interest to the University of Sheffield and discuss with them the possibility of running the session again. \n\n
