SUMMARY:Engineering: Interested In Being An Engineer? Want To Be Involved In Finding Solutions For A Low Carbon Future? With Associate Professor Christopher Wood From University Of Nottingham
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \nThe heating\, cooling and lighting of buildings account for a whopping 40% of global energy consumption! \nBuildings you experience in your everyday life can be often too hot or too cold and lacking energy efficiency.  There is a massive engineering opportunity here to make a real difference – to make buildings smart! \nEngineers are able to take the architectural vision and make it a reality in a sustainable way. Without what we do you would be left with a dark\, cold uninhabitable shell!  Our engineers simulate how a building will perform\, they design the mechanical and electrical services\, they simulate lighting and acoustics – they essentially breathe life into the building. \nWe are involved in both the design of new and the retrofit of existing buildings alike. Through engineering skill we can dramatically reduce the energy required to run our buildings! And at the same time make buildings with an internal environment which is more comfortable and healthy! We also have potential for using our buildings as energy generators\, supplying heat and power to the wider built environment. \nOur type of engineering is truly global and exists in buildings everywhere – at our core we are building performance and services engineers\, delivering smart buildings for the low carbon future! – we are Architectural Environment Engineers. \nJoin Christopher Wood from University of Nottingham to find out more about this exciting field and the study and career opportunities within it. \n  \n  \nLecturer Profile (Please Click): Associate Professor Christopher Wood \nSuitable for: Year 12 & 13 students with a potential interest in becoming an engineer. Teachers and members of school staff\, as always\, are welcome too\, particularly where you are joining as a group along with your students. \nPreparation or Pre-Reading: We recommend that students consider in advance some questions relevant to their interest in Business Decision Making and challenges they may be facing. \nThe IT Setup: The event will be run on Bluejeans and participants will be able to join using laptops\, tablets\, and mobile devices. If you are joining as a school group\, we recommend connecting with one device and projecting on to a whiteboard. You will be able to interact with the university via a microphone and/or typed comments and questions. Full details will be sent to those who have registered (see below) prior to the event. \nBooking a Place: This is free for schools and colleges. If you would like to take part in this event\, please register your interest using the link to the registration form below: \nRegister Here \n  \n  \n\n
