Criminology: ‘Our House Is On Fire!’ – Assessing The Climate Crisis From A Criminological Perspective – University Tutorial With Dr Lowri Cunnington Wynn From Aberystwyth University
12th October 2022 @ 12:45 - 13:30
In this live interactive Criminology tutorial, we will be joined by Dr Lowri Cunnington Wynn, a leading academic from the Department of Law & Criminology at Aberystwyth University, who will assess the Climate Crisis from a criminological perspective.
There is no doubt that the world is facing a significant and complex climate crisis. Current debates within Criminology adopt a Green perspective, and this session will introduce students to the major theoretical approaches to Green Criminology, with particular emphasis on international perspectives and solutions to the climate crisis. In addition, the session will introduce concepts of ‘environmental harm,’ against environmental law. Green Criminology is central to students’ understanding of a changing world, and the session will explore the complex interdependence between humans, nature, the changing climate and its relationship to harm and crime.
The full context/introduction to this live and interactive discussion is provided by the university in a Headliner recorded resource (see below) which offers insights into the key academic research and debate related to this fascinating topic. This recording can be watched as a class activity or independently in preparation for the discussion.
The session aims to deepen students’ understanding of the topic whilst enabling them to access and experience a live online university tutorial.
