DESCRIPTION:Register Here \n  \n \n  \nImagine if you chopped up your homework into a thousand little pieces\, each labelled with your teacher’s name\, and threw them out of the window and hoped they arrived.  Weird!  But that is how the internet works.  It’s a good analogy because not only would you be relying on strangers to deliver your homework\, as with the internet\, but also your homework would be visible to anyone standing outside your window when you cast your work to the winds. \nThe internet is genuinely this weird and this lecture we will look at how it came to be like that. We will also discuss some of the consequences – one of which is the “dark” web – a special kind of internet that is associated with spies\, espionage\, criminals and other people who are either “mad\, bad or dangerous to know.” \nThe content of the session is directly relevant to the Network/Networking fields of study in A Level (and equivalent) curricula. \n  \n\nLecturer Profile (Please Click): Professor Richard Harvey is Professor at the School of Computing Sciences and also the Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Admissions at the University of East Anglia. In addition\, Richard is IT Livery Company Professor of Information Technology at Gresham College. His current research focuses on artificial intelligence and computer vision. \n  \n\nOur events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom or students and teachers can take part as individuals\, either from school or from home. This means that sessions will continue irrespective of possible school closures. \nAs a live\, participative event\, this session will not be recorded but slides and other resources will be shared after the event\, where available. \n  \nSuitable for: Year 12 & 13 students (and equivalent) studying\, or interested in studying Computer Science. Teachers and members of school staff\, as always\, are welcome too and participants can join as individuals from school/college or home\, or as a group from school/college. \nPreparation/Pre-Reading: No particular preparation or pre-reading is required but students might like to consider questions related to the topic and/or about studying Computer Science at university. \nThe IT Setup: The event will be run on Bluejeans and participants will be able to join using laptops\, tablets\, and mobile devices. If you are joining as a school group\, we recommend connecting with one device and projecting on to a whiteboard. You will be able to interact with the university via a microphone and/or typed comments and questions.
