SUMMARY:Chemical Engineering: It is all in the Balance with John J Turner\, University of Nottingham
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \nJohn J Turner is an Assistant Professor and Head of Admissions in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the University of Nottingham. \nThe primary outcome of this interactive webinar is an introduction to the process of material balance\, an essential skill for multiple engineering fields. Participants will be able to relate some of the subject material they presently study in the sciences to Engineering applications. \nThe areas covered are material balance of basic separation processes\, e.g. evaporation and atomic material balance of stoichiometric chemical reactions. \n  \nLecturer Biography: John J Turner \nSuitable for: Year 12s studying A-Level Chemistry\, Mathematics and of some interest to Physicists. It is ideal for students with a potential interest in studying Engineering\, Chemical Engineering\, Applied Mathematics and Chemistry courses. While the primary focus is sixth form students\, it would also be a good taster for GCSE students in Science and Mathematics too. \nPreparation/Pre-Reading: The session will give an insight into how a lecture is delivered at Nottingham. Please click the link below to access the notes which support an undergraduate lecture on Material Balances. Jon will refer to the contents of this during the talk. Students are encouraged to have a look to gain a general appreciation of the subject area without needing to understand it in full prior to the talk. \nIt’s all in the Balance – Material Balances PDF \nThe IT Setup: The setup is similar to Skype\, using a pc and webcam\, although students take part as a group with the image projected on a whiteboard rather than as individuals in front of lots of pcs. Dedicated videoconferencing equipment is also compatible if available to the school/college. We will work with your IT department to ensure everything is set up and working prior to the event. The sessions are generally limited to 3 to 5 schools to maintain the interactive nature of the experience. \nBooking a Place: This is free for schools and colleges. Invitations to this event will be sent to schools and colleges by the University of Nottingham. Following an invitation\, if you have a group of students that you would like to take part in this event\, please click here  BOOK HERE \nSubject to availability we will book a place for you. \n
