SUMMARY:Economics/Business: Protectionism Rising - Trade War & The Pursuit of 'Optimum Tariffs' With Dr Liliana Harding From University of East Anglia
DESCRIPTION:Register here \n  \n  \n \n  \n  \nIn this Economics/Business session\, Dr Liliana Harding\, Associate Professor in Economics in the School of Economics at University of East Anglia\, will run an interactive talk for students entitled Protectionism Rising: Trade War and The Pursuit of ‘Optimum Tariffs’. \nThis session invites you to discuss with us the significance of global trade promoted through decades of increased openness around the world\, against new calls for protectionism and ‘trade war’. \nWe shall consider first the most important players in the global economy and ask to what extent the escalation of tariffs in the USA might hurt the American economy first\, followed by its closer and more distant trade partners. \nBased on such current issues\, we then account for what economics can tell us about the significance and effects of trade on large versus small economies. We introduce concepts such as the  ‘optimum tariffs’ or ‘effective rates of protection’ and reflect on areas and industries affected by trade policies. \n  \nLecturer Profile: Dr Liliana Harding \n\n  \nOur events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom or students and teachers can take part as individuals\, either from school or from home. There is no charge to take part. \nAs a live\, participative event\, this session will not be recorded but slides and other resources will be shared after the event\, where available. \n  \nSuitable for: Aged 16+ pre-university students studying\, or with a possible interest in studying\, Business\, Economics and related disciplines.
