SUMMARY:Biology: The Impacts Of Climate Change On Biodiversity With Dr Jim Provan & Dr Gemma Beatty From Aberystwyth University
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nOne of the great ironies of the challenges facing the planet in this era of climate change is that\, of the countless species that inhabit the Earth\, it is the actions of just one of these species that could have profound impacts on the vast majority of the others. \nWhat will these impacts be?  In the face of climate change\, species can either adapt to new conditions\, migrate to more suitable habitats\, or – ultimately – become extinct.  This webinar will explore the threats faced by the entire spectrum of biodiversity in our rapidly changing world\, and the capacity of different species to respond to these threats. \n  \nLecturer Profiles (Please Click): Dr Jim Provan & Dr Gemma Beatty \nSuitable for: Year 12 and 13 students (and equivalent) studying\, or with a possible interest in studying\, Biology\, Wildlife Conservation\, Ecology\, Zoology\, Plant Biology. You may also have broader interests in Climate Change. Teachers are also very welcome to join; please feel free to make it a class event. \nPreparation/Pre-Reading: Participants might consider what will happen to species / biodiversity under climate change? \n\nMigration\nAdaptation / Evolution\nExtinction\n\nThe IT Setup: The event will be run with one\, smaller\, audience on Bluejeans (similar to Zoom) and a larger audience\, simultaneously\, on Facebook Live. The smaller group in the Bluejeans meeting can engage using their microphones to talk directly to the university academics. The Facebook audience has the ability to ask questions and offer thoughts via comments on Facebook. In both cases\, participants will be able to join using laptops\, tablets\, and mobile devices. \nBooking a Place: This is free for schools and colleges. \nOur places on Bluejeans are all now booked but you are very welcome on Facebook. If you would like to take part\, please join the session on Facebook Live by clicking the link below: \nJoin on Facebook \n  \n  \n\n
