Bioengineering: Creating Artificial Skin – An Introduction To Bioengineering With Dr Michael Trikić From The University of Sheffield
October 30 @ 12:15 - 13:00
Have you heard about Bioengineering? Do you know what it is? If not, you are not the only one.
Bioengineering is a relatively new discipline and area of study, and it can mean many different things to different people. Working at the interface between engineering and medicine, it could relate to biomaterials, tissue engineering, medical devices or biomanufacture. And bioengineered products can include titanium bone supports, automated blood glucose monitoring technology, and insulin for treating diabetics made in bacteria, for example.
In this talk, Dr Michael Trikić will explore Bioengineering and what we understand of it here at The University of Sheffield, but also how it could affect us all and the promise it holds for the future.
Suitable for: Year 12 & 13 students studying Maths and Sciences with an interest in finding out more about Bioengineering and the further study and career opportunities in this exciting field.
Preparation/Pre-Reading: There is no specific preparation or pre-reading for this sessions although we recommend that students think about questions they might like to ask Michael. The session is interactive which means that students will have the opportunity to ask and respond to questions.
The IT Setup: The setup is similar to Skype, using a pc and webcam, although students take part as a group with the image projected on a whiteboard rather than as individuals in front of lots of pcs. Dedicated videoconferencing equipment is also compatible if available to the school. Further details are here: Connecting in to a Channel Talent Event (Please Click)
We will work with your IT department to ensure everything is set up and working prior to the event. The sessions are generally limited to 3 to 5 schools to maintain the interactive nature of the experience.
Booking a Place: This is free for schools and colleges. If you have a group of students that you would like to take part in this event, please click here
