Architecture: Open Studio with Students from the School of Architecture at Oxford Brookes University
7th December 2017 @ 13:00 - 13:45
In this Open Studio webinar, undergraduate students from the School of Architecture at Oxford Brookes University will host an interactive studio tour for KS4 & KS5 students. Through objects, models, and drawings, the students will discuss the practical, creative, hands-on nature of their studies and offer insight into how this underpins the overall approach to their education at Oxford Brookes. They will be supported by Christina Godiksen, the School’s Year 2 and Year 3 coordinator and architectural design module leader.
Whilst introducing school students to an exciting creative dynamic at Oxford Brookes, one of the leading schools of architecture in the UK, this webinar equally seeks to inspire potential architecture students to also explore alternative learning environments. Architectural education varies greatly between schools and their distinct approaches to teaching and learning create cultural and creative environments which may work for some students but not for others. Opening the studio in this way seeks to promote understanding of this and to encourage informed, balanced decision making for students considering architecture.
About the Session Leader (Click link): Christina Godiksen
Suitable for: Year 11, 12 and 13 students with a potential interest in studying Architecture.
Preparation/Pre-Reading: None is required although, prior to the event, students may wish to consider and discuss some questions they would like to ask about studying architecture at university.
The IT Setup: The setup is similar to Skype, using a pc and webcam, although students take part as a group with the image projected on a whiteboard rather than as individuals in front of lots of pcs. Dedicated videoconferencing equipment is also compatible if available to the school. We will work with your IT department to ensure everything is set up and working prior to the event. The sessions are generally limited to 3 or 4 schools to maintain the interactive nature of the experience.
Booking a Place: This event is being run following a request from an individual school. If you have a group of students that you think would benefit from taking part in this event, please contact us via email or via the contact form at the top right of this webpage (or at the bottom if you are using a mobile device). This will then be considered with the school involved and the university in light of places already made available to other schools.
