SUMMARY:American Studies: US Election Day Special With Dr Emma Long From University Of East Anglia
DESCRIPTION:\nTHIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED\n  \n \n  \nHeld on US presidential election day\, this interactive Election Special with Dr Emma Long\, Senior Lecturer in American Studies at University of East Anglia\, offers a fabulous opportunity for students and teachers to engage with the issues that will determine the outcome of this long anticipated contest. We will draw parallels with the 2016 election and discuss how the political landscape has changed since Donald Trump was first elected. \nEmma will begin by comparing this election with that of 2016\, exploring similarities such as the role of religion\, and differences such as the battle over the Supreme Court\, asking how those factors might shape the election outcome.  We will then move on to a collaborative\, structured discussion in which we would love to hear from students and teachers taking part. \nOur events are designed so that a group of students can take part from a classroom or students and teachers can take part as individuals\, either from school or from home. This means that sessions will continue irrespective of possible school closures. \n  \nLecturer Profile (Please Click): Dr Emma Long  \nSuitable for: Year 12 & 13 students with an interest in US Politics and Culture. Teachers and members of school staff\, as always\, are welcome too\, particularly where you are joining as a group along with your students. \nPreparation or Pre-Reading: We recommend that students consider in advance the key issues at play in this election\, thoughts/ideas you might like to share\, and questions you may have. \nThe IT Setup: The event will be run on Bluejeans and participants will be able to join using laptops\, tablets\, and mobile devices. If you are joining as a school group\, we recommend connecting with one device and projecting on to a whiteboard. You will be able to interact with the university via a microphone and/or typed comments and questions. Full details will be sent to those who have registered (see below) prior to the event. \nBooking a Place: This is free for schools and colleges. THIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED. \n
